WPD: Expansion of Management Sector and Growth in International Markets
Bremen, February 10, 2006. In an altogether declining wind energy market, the Bremen-based WPD AG expanded its commercial activities and reached a new mile-stone with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW. “In 2005, we strongly expanded the management sector, pushed our involvement in international wind markets with projects in Taiwan, Belgium and Croatia and intensified the biogas and solar sectors. Altogether, we accompanied 191 MW with a total investment of € 280 million,” WPD chairman Dr. Gernot Blanke declares. Likewise successful, WPD was able to further strengthen its market leadership in the sector of equity placement. Parallel to this, the staff in Bremen, Egeln, Stockholm and London increased steadily to 100 at present.
“In 2006 we will set our focus on the international markets especially in Europe and Asia. Alongside existing cooperations we are seeking partners with whom we will be able to successfully implement projects in the market”, states Dr. Blanke.
On the German market, WPD has considerably increased the sector of active windpark management by taking over projects of EBV AG as well as a considerable participation in psm nature power service management GmbH (formerly: Umweltkontor Services GmbH). “With these participations we now control directly and indirectly roughly 1,000 wind energy stations with a capacity of 1,400 MW in Germany and have thus significantly expanded our market position. This position is confirmed by the rating agency of Euler Hermes (Allianz Group) which rated our company – for the third time in a row already – with an A-rating,” states WPD chairman Dr. Klaus Meier.
