IWR starts stock index for renewable energies
Münster (Germany) – The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR), Münster, is starting an international index for renewable energies on May 1st, 2006. The new RENIXX® stock index stands for “Renewable Energy Industrial Index” and displays the performance of companies in renewable energy technologies, the industrial field of the future.
The rate barometer of the renewable energy industry begins with the 15 most important stocks of companies worldwide that have the highest market capitalization (free float) from the areas of wind energy, solar energy, hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal energy and fuel cells. “The RENIXX® stock index is intended for investors who in view of rising energy prices for fossil energy sources are relying on system technologies of the future”, said IWR Head, Dr. Norbert Allnoch. The objective is to establish an industrial market barometer at an international level that reflects the highly dynamic development within this sector, explained Allnoch.
There are currently around 60 companies worldwide listed on the international stock exchange that earn more than a half of their revenues in the renewable energy sector, the minority of which is government-owned. The RENIXX® is designed as a performance index, is calculated every 60 seconds and will be first published on the Internet pages http://www.iwr.de and the international Renewable Energy Industry platform http://www.renewable-energy-industry.com. The final composition and weighting of the companies in the RENIXX® is derived from the ranking of the market capitalization at the last day of trading in April 2006. At the start of the RENIXX®, a market capitalization (free float) of the listed companies is expected to range between 18 and 20 billion euros. Starting on April 29th, 2006, more information on the RENIXX® will be available at http://www.iwr.de/renixx.
