Renewable energy sources: IWR welcomes industrial policy goals of the NRW government
Münster - Yersterday, the NRW government passed a comprehensive program for increasing energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy sources and energy research. The program’s goal is to reduce the primary energy consumption by 20% by the year 2020. The revenue of the renewable energy industry in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is to be increased to EUR 15 billion and the number of people employed is to increase from its current total of 16,500 to 40,000 by the year 2020.
The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster welcomes the industrial policy objective of the NRW government as both a progressive and pioneering step. “Measures and programs for protecting the climate within our own country are crucial. The key for sustainable jobs lies in the export of technologies and in industry's competence to develop and produce renewable system technologies such as wind turbines and solar power systems. These technologies can be employed across the globe and therefore contribute to climate protection everywhere and secure jobs at the same time,” said IWR Director, Dr Norbert Allnoch.
