Biodiesel capacity reaches record level in 2007
Münster – An increasing number of biodiesel production plants are being built in Germany. According to a recent analysis of the International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR), additional plants with an annual capacity of 1.54 million tons are still planned for 2007. As a result, Germany’s total biodiesel production capacity will increase by over 40 percent, reaching a record 5.4 million tons by the end of the year (3.8 million tons in 2006).
2006 total fuel sales in Germany amounted to 51.7 million tons, 29.1 million of which were diesel and 22.6 million of which were petrol. Working at the maximum national production capacity, biodiesel could theoretically make up over 18 percent of mineral diesel.
