Renewable energy shows strong growth worldwide – RENIXX companies shine in 2007- Annual Balance of the Renewable Energy Industry
Münster - The sustained high international demand for renewable energy technologies, such as wind turbines and solar systems (generation of electricity and heat), has sparked a jump in last year’s sales figures of the industry’s listed companies across the globe. The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster, Germany, announced that the revenues of 30 international companies listed in the RENIXX World, the global share index for renewable energies, rose by 50.4 percent to 19.4 billion euros in 2007 (2006: 12.9 billion euros). This development shows clear signs of accelerated growth compared to 2005/2006, when revenues jumped by 34.5 percent.
“In the revenue distribution by continent, RENIXX companies in Europe, having gained 75.8 percent in 2007, are clearly ahead of Asia (12.6 percent) and North America (11.6 percent),” explains Dr. Norbert Allnoch, Director of the IWR. However, Asian companies, achieving 165 percent, boasted the highest average growth rate in 2007 ahead of North American (90 percent) and European companies (40 percent).
Among the top 5 companies with the highest revenues listed in the RENIXX-World for 2007, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas (4.9 billion euros) placed first beating out both the Spanish company Gamesa (3.3 billion euros) and Iberdrola Renovables (953 million euros). According to the IWR, the Chinese company Suntech Power took fourth place (1.4 billion USD = 916 million euros as of 12/31/2007) followed by the German solar power company Q-Cells (859 million euros).
