Windpower Great Britain - Energiekontor gains wind farm planning consent in north east England
Bremen - Energiekontor UK Ltd, a 100% owned subsidiary of Energiekontor AG, has gained planning consent for the Withernwick wind farm after a public enquiry. The site in Yorkshire is around three km from the north sea coast.
Energiekontor UK plans to install nine 2MW class wind turbines at the site, which is near the town of Hull. The wind speed is estimated to be around 7.5m/s. Dirk Gottschalk, CEO of Energiekontor AG, said "a planning consent in the UK is a significant success, as Great Britain is one of our most important strategic markets". The Director of the UK subsidiary, Guy Wilson, added, "despite some opposition, everything points towards a significant increase of wind energy in the future".
A significant step towards gaining consent was reaching an agreement with the Ministry of Defence. The effect on landscape was given as the reason for the previous planning refusal, but this decision was overturned at public enquiry.
