Ballard Participates in B.C. Government Low-Carbon Economy Roundtable in China

Vancouver, Canada and Guangzhou, China - Ballard’s Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region participated in a “Guangzhou Low-Carbon Economy Roundtable” at the request of the event’s host and organizer, The Honorable John Horgan, Premier of the Province of British Columbia, Canada.

The roundtable event was held in Guangzhou, China – where Ballard’s China office is located - to help communicate British Columbia’s vision for enhanced cooperation with Guangdong Province in the development of a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

Other senior officials in attendance from the Province of British Columbia included The Honorable Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology and The Honorable George Chow, Minister of State for Trade. Senior government officials from Guangdong Province as well as many of Guangdong Province’s industry and business leaders were guests at the roundtable event.

Alfred Wong, Ballard’s Managing Director – Asia Pacific said, “It was an honor to participate in the B.C. Premier’s important roundtable event, which underscored Ballard’s support of China’s aggressive adoption of fuel cell electric vehicles, or FCEVs, including clean energy transit buses, commercial trucks, urban trams and consumer cars. China has recognized the strong economic advantage – in addition to the positive environmental impact – that FCEVs have in comparison to other propulsion systems. In addition to the roundtable, I also joined Premier Horgan for a ride on a Feichi bus powered by Ballard’s fuel cell engine.”

Premier Horgan commented, “British Columbia is home to world-class clean technology companies on the cutting edge of scientific excellence in renewable energy, clean transportation technology and energy efficiency. Ballard Power Systems is the global leader in zero-emission fuel cell products and a great example of a British Columbia company working to help China address its air quality priorities and lay the foundation for a sustainable, low-carbon economy.”
