New World Record: Longi Achieves 33.9 Percent Efficiency With Crystalline Silicon Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells
Xi'an, China - Longi has announced that the solar group has achieved a new world record efficiency of 33.9 percent for crystalline silicon perovskite tandem solar cells. According to Longi, the previous world record set by King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) in May this year was 33.7 percent.
Longi founder and president Zhenguo Li emphasized that the efficiency of solar cells is an important indicator and benchmark for evaluating the potential of photovoltaic technologies. The theoretical efficiency of crystalline silicon perovskite tandem solar cells can be as high as 43% and is considered to be the most important technical solution to break through the efficiency barrier of crystalline silicon single-junction cells. The emergence of crystalline silicon perovskite tandem technology has opened up a new path for the development of next-generation high-efficiency solar cell technology. This means that more electricity can be generated on the same area absorbing the same amount of light, Li said.
Once high-efficiency solar cell technology reaches mass production, the cost of photovoltaic power generation will drop significantly compared to the past, which will be of great benefit to the growth of China and the global photovoltaic market. The growth of the photovoltaic market will also drive the entire global energy transition, added Hua Jiang, Deputy Secretary General of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA).
