105 MW: Vestas secures large order for wind farms in South Africa

Johannesburg, South Africa - Vestas will deliver 105 megawatts (MW) of wind power plants to South Africa. The Danish producer announced on Thursday that a consortium led by Innowind, an 80 per cent affiliate of EDF EN, ordered the plants for the three wind farms Chaba, Waainek and Grassridge. The co-investors and partners in the projects are the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the local communities.

All three wind power plants, Chaba (7 x V112.3.0 MW), Waainek (8 x V112-3.0 MW) and Grassridge (20 x V112-3.0 MW) will be installed in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. The delivery of the turbines for the wind projects is planned for mid-2014 with the commissioning expected to start in the third quarter of 2014. The contract for all three turnkey projects comprises supply, installation and commissioning of 35 V112-3.0 MW wind turbines, full scope civil and electrical works as well as a 10-year full-scope service agreement.
