U.S. Solar Installer: Vivint Solar Names Greg Butterfield as CEO

Provo, Utah, USA - Vivint Solar, a leading full-service residential solar integrator, announced on thursday it has named Greg Butterfield as Chief Executive Officer. Butterfield has more than 25 years of executive-level experience in the software and network system management industries, most notably as Chairman and CEO of Altiris.

During his tenure at Altiris, Butterfield led the company to eight consecutive years of revenue growth and profitability, growing annual revenues from $3 million to $339 million. Altiris was acquired by Symantec Corporation in 2007 and Butterfield continued to lead as group president of server and storage management at Symantec.

Long career

Prior to joining Vivint Solar, Butterfield was a managing partner at SageCreek Partners, a technology investment firm. In addition to Altiris, Butterfield was also group president of server and storage management at Symantec Corporation and has held executive positions at Vinca Corporation and Novell.

Butterfield has served as a chairman or a board member for RES Software, Needle, Utah Valley University, Utah's Technology Council, Utah Information Technology Association, and Omniture. In 2002, Butterfield won the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and finance from Brigham Young University.

Second largest U.S. residential solar installer

Vivint Solar is the second largest U.S. residential solar installer, according to the U.S. PV Leaderboard published by GTM Research. Through a power purchase agreement (PPA), a homeowner can buy the power generated by a solar photovoltaic system at a lower rate than they could get from a local utility provider. Vivint Solar designs, installs, monitors, and services the system with no additional out-of-pocket costs to the homeowner.
