WindGuard supports planning and optimisation of the Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWB II) offshore project

Varel (renewablepress) - The recent investment decision for the Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWB II) offshore wind park marks an important milestone for both the TWB II project and for DWG.

Over the past few years DWG has been closely involved in the development of the TWB II project. During this time, DWG have carried out a variety of tasks including: technical support for the preparation of the wind turbine tender; wind farm optimizations for different turbine types, assessment of effective turbulence and loading effects due to neighboring turbines as well as preparation of the energy yield assessment reports which formed the basis of project financing.

"With the decision to look at larger wind turbine types, questions arose regarding the impact these changes will have on neighboring turbines and the resulting requirements for authorization. DWG swiftly adapted to the change in circumstances and were quick to offer viable technical solutions" says Manuel Eck, Commercial Project Manager of Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II GmbH & Co. KG.

One challenge was how to optimally integrate the larger wind turbines within the planned area. This involved the consideration of the turbine design parameters and the licensing requirements of the existing neighboring wind parks. For this purpose, DWG computed the load-relevant parameters resulting from the revised design, and tested the structural integrity of the neighboring turbines already in operation by means of integral load simulation.

"We are delighted that we were given the opportunity to take on these challenges, and by combining the various competences within our company, we were able to meet the requirements of the project," said Martin Strack of Deutsche WindGuard. "Taking a holistic approach such as this serves to increase both the efficiency of workflow and the quality of the results."
