Further development in the field of solar mirrors - Precision-bending for higher efficiency
Nuremberg (Germany) - Greater reflection, more precise bending: the glass processing company FLABEG has once again set the standard in the field of solar mirrors. FLABEG is currently the only distributor of precision-bended parabolic mirrors for solar thermal power plants worldwide.
“We are expanding our service profile because solar thermal power plants are an essential aspect of renewable electricity production,” explained Axel Buchholz, CEO of FLABEG. “Although we enjoy a head start both in terms of experience and development of about 30 years, we are not just going to leave it at that. This can easily be seen in the current characteristics of our mirrors: the current average energy reflection is 93%,” he added.
The mirrors are so precisely bent that over 99% of the reflected solar radiation reaches the absorber tube. Reflection and precision-bending are fundamental factors in terms of the efficiency of a solar power plant: One percent more radiation per annum translates into an additional five million kilowatt hours for a 50-megawatt power plant.
Working together with MAN in the framework of the space program “Ariane”, FLABEG already developed in the 1970s what still today is the world’s leading measurement technology.

FLABEG specializes in all process of glass refinement, particularly setting the technological standard in terms of the company's core competencies - bending and coating.
