Renewable Shares: Stellar Trading in 2007
– RENIXX World Up 107.3%, Closes at Year’s High

Münster (Germany) - Investors in sustainable investments were rewarded with high market gains in 2007. The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster, Germany, announced that RENIXX World, the international stock exchange barometer for renewable energies, rose 107.3% last year (2006: +42.2%) to close at 1918.71 points. According to IWR Director Dr. Norbert Allnoch, "oil and gas prices and climate concerns should continue to drive market trends in 2008." The 30 international companies listed on the RENIXX are currently valued at €135 billion following reweighting at the end of the year, up from just €74 billion six months ago.

Led by the international solar industry, ten of the 30 international RENIXX shares were up by over 100% in 2007. The American solar power company First Solar saw the greatest gains in 2007 (+714.1%), followed by the Chinese company JA Solar (+273.8%), Sunpower (250.8%), Yingli (235%), Solon (+204.4%), and Q-Cells (+186.5%). Among the wind power companies, Nordex was up 129.5%, followed by the Danish manufacturer Vestas (+123.8%). The weakest performers on the RENIXX last year were EnviTec with a loss of 52.3%, followed by the American bioethanol providers Aventine (-51.6%) and Pacific Ethanol (-51.5%), and Conergy (-48.1%).

The RENIXX composition was modified at the turn of the year as part of a regular review of market capitalization. The Spanish wind power company Iberdrola Renovables, British-American wind power plant manufacturer Clipper, Taiwanese solar cell manufacturer Motech, Chinese solar power company Solarfun Power, Swiss solar equipment manufacturer Meyer Burger, and German biogas plant manufacturer Schmack Biogas were added to RENIXX World in 2007, while solar power providers Conergy, Ersol, and Renesola, bioethanol producer Aventine, biogas plant manufacturer EnviTec Biogas, and fuel cell provider Plug Power were dropped.
