Windhunter: what the new EEG means for wind measurement and for the planning of wind farms

Berlin - The new EEG is a little more than one month old, and it already shows its impact on the German wind industry. Paradoxically, the wind power market is picking up, as the experts from Windhunter noticed: “despite of the new regulations being worse than before, we are receiving even more requests for high quality wind met masts” says Maciej Laz, head of the Windhunter office in Berlin. On one hand, many wind farm developers seem to start projects which have been on hold during the last month or years due to the uncertainty about the new EEG – now that the law is passed they know what they will get again and so they can re-calculate their projects. On the other hand, the new law cuts down the feed-in tariffs and creates new mechanisms of marketing renewable power, which diminish their return of investment. To reduce the risk of financial loss or even a complete failure of the project, an accurate wind measurement with a met mast on site is imperative! This reduces the uncertainties in the energy yield estimation, and with lower uncertainties the banks will give better conditions in financing the project.

It seems that the new EEG can’t stop the drive and enthusiasm of the wind power industry. Windhunter keep their enthusiasm, too, and for the WindEnergy trade show in Hamburg they release new offers for high quality met masts and wind measurement equipment to make wind power projects even more profitable and safe, even in times of a worse EEG.
