Offshore Wind Farm Nordergründe: wpd signs Supply Contracts with local Manufacturers and gets Project Financing started

Bremen - wpd AG has closed all the supply contracts for the Nordergründe project. In addition, the Bremen wind farm developer and operator commissions the KfW IPEX Bank with the financing of the project using borrowed funds, which are structured collectively in a bank consortium with the European Investment Bank. The Nordergründe offshore wind farm will be built and put into operation in 2016.

Nordergründe is the first German offshore project for which the work will be exclusively delivered and installed by German companies. Moreover, all suppliers have their manufacturing in the north-west region. Besides Senvion (turbines), these are the companies Ambau (foundations), BVT (substation), NSW (internal cabling) and Bilfinger (installation).

\"We are extremely pleased that local manufacturers from the region have positioned themselves so clearly in our international process for the award of the contracts. This highlights the competitive strength of the German offshore industry and the benefit which local added value also brings for the projects\", Achim Berge Olsen commented, the managing director of wpd offshore GmbH.

With the Senvion 6.2M126, wind turbines of the six megawatt class are to be installed the first time in a wpd project. The 111 MW project is located in water depths up to 10 metres within the 12 nautical miles zone of the German North Sea, about 15 kilometres north-east of the island of Wangerooge.

Currently, the wpd project Butendiek is still in the building stage. The first turbines of the 288 MW wind farm located in the North Sea off the island of Sylt have been supplying renewable energy since the start of February.
