BayWa r.e. procures wind turbine generators from Siemens for a 16 MW wind farm in Sweden

Malmö/Munich - BayWa r.e. has entered into an agreement with Siemens AB regarding the procurement of five wind turbine generators for the wind farm Stormon, near Härnösand, in Sweden. It is the first agreement with Siemens turbines within the BayWa r.e.-group.

BayWa r.e. has procured the SWT-3.2–113, which is based on Siemens’ D3 platform and has a direct drive generator. This concept allows for 50 percent fewer movable parts and is 30 percent lighter than traditional gearbox wind turbines. The turbine has a rated capacity of 3,2 MW, a rotor diameter of 113 meters, and will be erected on a 92,5 meter tower. Furthermore, a 15 year full service agreement was signed with Siemens. The wind farm is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2015.

“Stormon is the first windfarm which BayWa r.e. is constructing in Sweden since BayWa r.e. has entered the Scandinavian wind market by purchasing the majority share of the Swedish HS Kraft. We are very happy to have Siemens as turbine supplier and look forward to the ongoing collaboration. I am convinced that this is a further sustainable investment which is consistent with the advancement of our wind activities in the Nordics”, says Matthias Taft, CEO of BayWa r.e.

“This is a great assignment which Siemens has been awarded by BayWa r.e. The order is a reflection of Siemens’ commitment to producing larger direct drive wind turbines, which are optimized for Swedish conditions”, says Hans Carlsson, speaking for wind power at Siemens AB.
