Juwi Sells The Company's Largest PV Project in Greece
Athens, Greece / Wörrstadt - Juwi, a German renewable energy project developer, today (17.02.2020) signed a purchase agreement for a photovoltaic portfolio in the Kozani region via its Greek subsidiary with the Hellenic Petroleum Group.
"This is another major step for the juwi group and in particular for our Greek subsidiary, as it is currently our largest single PV project in the company’s history," said Juwi Board Member Stephan Hansen at the signing of the contract. The project highlights the enormous potential of solar energy – not just in Greece but all over the world. Juwi has always believed in the Greek renewable energy market. The Kozani project confirms this persistence, Hansen continued.
The total investment for the solar park will amount to 130 million euros. The transaction is expected to be closed during the second quarter of 2020. Construction will begin in the third quarter of 2020 and will take about 16 months. The project is expected to be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2021.
For Hellenic Petroleum Group, the project is an important step in the implementation of its strategy to develop new low carbon footprint activities and accelerating the achievement of the initial target of 300 MW installed capacity of renewable power. The project's contribution is also of particular importance for the structural change in the Kozani region, away from a lignite center, towards a region with clean energy generation, newly created jobs and a significantly improved ecological footprint, said Hellenic Petroleum CEO Andreas Shiamishis. According to Takis Sarris, Juwi’s managing director of the Greek subsidiary, more than 300 jobs will be created in the region during the construction phase.
When it comes to larger solar power plants on open spaces, Juwi is one of the top providers worldwide in the categories of project development, EPC and O&M services. This is the result of a current analysis of the internet platform "Wiki Solar" of the international market for PV power plants with a capacity of more than four megawatts ("utility scale"). According to this analysis, Juwi ranks fourth in the international ranking in the field of turnkey construction (EPC) of large-scale PV plants and is thus the leading European company in this segment. Juwi is even ranked third in the area of operation & maintenance (O&M) and is also the leading European company in this segment. Juwi is also on the list of the 25 largest PV project developers. Since the company was founded in 1996, Juwi has planned and built more than 1,700 PV systems of various sizes with a total output of around 2,500 megawatts in more than 25 countries.
