Strategic Research Cooperation: Equinor Increasingly Focuses on Offshore Wind Energy

Stavanger, Norway - The Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor continues to drive the transformation forward and focuses on offshore wind energy.

Equinor and the Norwegian Stiftelsen for industriell og teknisk forskning (Sintef) have agreed on a strategic collaboration in four key areas: offshore wind energy, marine systems, energy systems and modelling studies related to these areas.

Intef is Equinor's biggest research and technology development partner. This is the first time the companies have entered into a strategic collaboration agreement.

The agreement aims to facilitate the exchange and development of ideas and radical solutions between the two partners. The companies will work together on projects that will create value and support Equinor's transition to a broad-based energy company.

One of the areas of cooperation (offshore wind energy) is already underway: Equinor has already built the world's first floating wind farm, Hywind Scotland, and is currently building Norway's first floating wind farm, Hywind Tampen.

The offshore wind cooperation between Equinor and Sintef goes back to the first test of Hywind technology at Sintef's Ocean Basin Laboratory in 2005, Equinor said.
