Deutsche Windtechnik Achieves Record Year in the USA - New Service Order from Sweden
Houston, USA / Varberg, Sweden / Bremen, Germany - Deutsche Windtechnik has closed the 2020 financial year in the USA with a record number of new service orders. The wind service provider is also further expanding its project portfolio in Sweden.
Record year in the U.S. with over 1,000 MW of new wind capacity in turbine service
Deutsche Windtechnik's U.S. unit, established in 2018, looks back on an outstanding record year in 2020. Last year, the U.S. branch recorded new wind energy service contracts for turbines from the manufacturers Siemens, GE and Mitsubishi with a total output of over 1,300 MW. Adding Mitsubishi to the portfolio has alone brought in 724 MW under long-term contracts. Overall, this represents an order growth of more than 700 percent for the U.S. unit, according to Deutsche Windtechnik, which expects the growth to continue in 2021.
The growth in service contracts has been accompanied by a significant increase in staff. Within a year, the number of employees has more than quadrupled and now totals 139. In order to maintain the highest level of quality service, Deutsche Windtechnik has also invested heavily in expanding its training department in the U.S. to offer the latest technology standards through its specially developed training program, which is tailored to each turbine technology.
Beyond traditional WTG maintenance activities under long-term contract frameworks, Deutsche Windtechnik is also a provider of other specialized services in the U.S. to support optimal WTG operations. In 2020, these included exclusive commissioning and maintenance of battery storage systems, end of warranty and construction inspections, major component replacements and technology-related upgrades.
In addition to employee development, customer feedback is paramount to Deutsche Windtechnik's success, according to U.S. Managing Director Melf Lorenzen. "By checking the pulse through the internationally recognized NPS Survey System continuously, we ensure to stay client-centric and continue improving the safety and performance of renewable projects together with the wind farm owners we partner with," Lorenzen said.
Sweden order for maintenance of 8 Siemens SWT 2.3 DD turbines
Deutsche Windtechnik is also further expanding its service portfolio in Sweden and has signed a contract to provide full maintenance for 8 Siemens SWT 2.3 DD WTGs at the Gunnarby wind farm n Sweden. The contract comes into effect in February 2021 and has a term of 10 years. Due to contracts with a neighboring wind farm, Deutsche Windtechnik has already established a service location near this wind farm, including service teams working seven days a week with short response times.
The operator of the Gunnaby wind farm is the real estate company Wallenstam, which is actively involved in sustainable development and focuses on new construction and management of residential and commercial properties. With this new service contract, Deutsche Windtechnik now provides maintenance for a total of 184 wind turbines in Sweden, including systems from Vestas, Siemens, Nordex, Gamesa and Enercon.
