Rome, Italy - Italian utility Enel has significantly expanded its solar portfolio in Brazil. Enel Group's Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary, Enel Green Power Brasil Participações Ltda. ("EGPB") has started commercial operation of a 133 MW solar park.

The solar power plant is an expansion of the 475 MW São Gonçalo solar power plant already in operation since January 2020. Enel has invested about 422 million Brazilian reais (about 80 million euros) for the new 133 MW section.

Meanwhile, further expansion of the giant solar power plant is proceeding apace. In 2020, Enel has started construction of the third section with a capacity of 256 MW. In total, the total solar power plant capacity at the São Gonçalo solar park climbs to 864 MW. According to Enel, the investment in the third section amounts to 735 million Brazilian reais (approx. 140 million euros).
