Nordex Scores with Further Orders from Finland and Poland

Hamburg, Bremen, Dresden / Germany - Nordex already received a major order from Wpd for the "Karhunnevankangas" wind farm in the Österbotten region of western Finland in December 2020. Shortly before the end of the first quarter of 2021, the wind turbine manufacturer won another Wpd order for a Finnish wind farm. Together with an order from VSB for a wind cluster in Poland, the order volume reported by Nordex since the beginning of March climbs to around 920 MW.

Wpd signs supply contract for 17 turbines for project in northern Finland

Bremen-based project developer and operator Wpd has has concluded a supply agreement with Nordex for the Finnish onshore project Nuolivaara including a long-term service contract. The 96.9 MW wind farm will consist of 17 N163/5.X turbines from the Delta4000 series. The wind farm is located north of the Arctic Circle in Lapland, approximately 25 kilometers northeast of the Finnish town of Kemijärvi, in the border region of the two municipalities Kemijärvi and Salla. The turbines will be supplied in the cold-climate variant with an anti-icing system for the rotor blades, so that in view of the harsh climatic conditions beyond the Arctic Circle, it will be possible to operate the turbines at temperatures as low as -30°C. The turbines will be designed for a project-specific output of 5.7 MW capacity. The wind farm is scheduled for completion and commissioning at the end of 2022. Road construction is scheduled to begin this month (April 2021).

"Depending on the climate conditions, since years we equip every second wind farm of our customers in the Nordic countries with the cold-climate version and our anti-icing system. We are convinced that the highly efficient N163/5.X will also be able to generate constant high yields throughout the year at this demanding northern location", said Nordex Chief Sales Officer Patxi Landa. "The Nuolivaara project represents an important further step for wpd in the growth market of Finland. We are glad that with Nordex we have a manufacturer at our side with whom we can meet the specific climatic conditions in Northern Finland", adds Heikki Peltomaa, Managing Director of Wpd Finland Oy.

VSB Group orders 11 turbines for wind cluster in Poland

Last week, Nordex also reported an order from VSB for the delivery of 11 3 MW class turbines from Poland. The turbines are intended for a wind cluster with a total capacity of 42.6 MW. Here, too, the order includes a long-term service agreement. The parties have agreed not to disclose the type of turbine or the name of the project. According to plans, Nordex will deliver the turbines in autumn 2022, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2022. "Following projects in Germany and Finland, we are now also pleased to equip Polish wind farms of the VSB Group with our turbine technology and thus contribute to accelerating the energy transition in Poland," said Nordex COO Sales Landa. "It was a pleasure to work with Nordex on this important milestone for our first 100% own developed Polish project. We are looking forward to the start of construction work and the turbine delivery next year," added Hubert Kowalski, Managing Director of VSB Energie Odnawialne Polska sp. z o.o.
