Expansion: Plug Power Establishes European Headquarters In North Rhine-Westphalia

Latham, USA - American hydrogen and fuel cell specialist Plug Power will expand its operations with a European headquarters in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The announcement was made official during a meeting between Plug Power CEO Andy Marsh and NRW Economics Minister Andreas Pinkwart in Washington, D.C.

Plug Power will begin operations in North Rhine-Westphalia in early 2022 and will initially create 60 jobs in engineering labs, technical customer support, logistics and training by mid-year. The exact location is to be announced at a later date.

"The expansion to Europe comes as Plug Power faces a growing customer base abroad with the burgeoning interest in green hydrogen energy," said the Plug Power CEO.

"Hydrogen is a key enabler for the climate-friendly transformation of our industry and transport sector. That is why we are honoured that Plug Power has chosen the Ruhr region, Germany's industrial heartland," said NRW Minister Pinkwart, welcoming Plug Power's decision to locate in NRW.

"We are very pleased that we have been able to attract Plug Power to our location with such a forward-looking technology. The company enriches the energy region of North Rhine-Westphalia and will benefit not only from a broad customer base but also from an innovative research environment," adds NRW Global Business Managing Director Felix Neugart.

RENIXX listed Plug Power has been present in Europe for more than 10 years and has made significant progress in hydrogen mobility with key European industrials, logistics customers and vehicle manufacturers, namely its joint venture with Renault called HYVIA. Plug Power has installed several PEM technology electrolyzers in Germany, France, The Netherlands, and Portugal. The European headquarters is a part of Plug’s overall strategy to rapidly expand its workforce with the increase in demand for clean energy solutions. Plug expects to produce more than 500 tons of green hydrogen per day by 2025.
