Empire Offshore Wind: Vestas Selected As Preferred Supplier For US Wind Energy Project
Aarhus, Denmark - Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has scored another success in the offshore wind energy market. Following the launch of the world's most powerful wind turbine, the V236-15.0 MW, the joint venture Empire Offshore Wind has now appointed Vestas as the preferred turbine supplier for the 2.1 GW Empire Wind 1 and Empire Wind 2 offshore wind projects in New York, USA.
With this project, New York, Equinor, BP and Vestas are jointly taking a leading role in the development of the offshore industry in the US, Vestas said. They are bringing the US closer to President Biden's goal of installing 30 GW (30,000 MW) of offshore wind capacity by 2030. New York State itself plans to install 9 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035
The tower sections for Empire Wind 1 and 2 are planned to be sourced from the Marmen/Welcon plant, which is being developed in Port of Albany. For staging of turbine components, Vestas will utilize the upgraded port at South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, developing a local, New York-based, supply chain to provide a comprehensive set of services in the staging, pre-assembly and installation activities.
Vestas' RENIXX-listed share price is unchanged at around €36 in yesterday's trading.
