Siemens Gamesa Awarded Contract For Finnish Record Wind Farm - Nordex Scores in France
Münster, Germany - In the wake of the publication of the latest quarterly figures, listed wind turbine manufacturers have recently had to adjust their forecasts downwards in view of the severe impact of the pandemic on raw material prices and supply chains.
455 MW Lestijärvi wind farm to accelerate energy transition in Finland
Siemens Gamesa has been awarded a contract by Swedish project developer OX2 to supply the turbines for the large-scale Lestijärvi wind farm in Finland. With a capacity of 455 megawatts, this is the largest wind farm in Finland to date in terms of output, Siemens Gamesa points out.
A total of 69 SG 6.6-170 turbines are to be installed at the site in central Ostrobothnia in 2024. The wind turbines have a capacity of 6.6 MW and are equipped with a 170-meter rotor. This is the second Finnish site where the Siemens Gamesa 5.X will be used, following the signing of an 81 MW contract for the SG 6.6-155 in early 2021. Siemens Gamesa expects annual energy production at the site to be around 1.3 terawatt hours (TWh), which the company says is equivalent to around two percent of Finland's total electricity production.
The wind farm will also be covered by a 35-year service contract to ensure that the turbines operate at maximum capacity throughout their lifetime.
Nordex awarded contract for 44 MW wind farm in France
Order intake also continues to run smoothly at Siemens Gamesa competitor Nordex. Following orders from Ireland (101 MW) and Turkey (68.4 MW) in previous weeks, the German wind turbine manufacturer last week (Nov. 23, 2021) reported an order for the delivery and installation of the turbines for the 44 MW "Nouvions" wind farm in the Aisne department of France. The client is RWE Renewables. In addition to the delivery, the order also includes a 5-year service contract.
With this order, Nordex will deliver turbines of the type N149/4.X of the Delta4000 series to France for the first time; erection of the eleven turbines will start in August 2022 and commissioning is scheduled for October 2022.
"We are glad to note that our long-standing customer RWE has enabled us to conclude the first order in France for turbines in the Delta4000 series. With almost 44 MW, Nouvions will also be one of the largest wind farms using Nordex turbines in the country," said Nordex Chief Sales Officer Patxi Landa.
Share prices recover
The shares of Siemens Gamesa and Nordex were among the best-performing stocks in the RENIXX World regenerative share index last week. With a plus of 4.7 percent to a price of 22.96 euros, Siemens Gamesa took the lead. Nordex landed in second place with a gain of 2.9 percent to 15.45 euros (25.11.2021, closing prices, Stuttgart Stock Exchange).
