WPD Successful With PPAs in Finland, Spain and Poland - Turbine Supply Contract for French Wind Trender Project Concluded

Bremen, Germany - The Bremen-based developer and operator of on- and offshore wind farms and solar parks can report further successes with wind energy projects based on power purchase agreements (PPAs) in Finland, Spain and Poland. In France Wpd concludes supply contract for wind turbines in the onshore project Auzay.

Another electricity supply contract with K Group in Finland

In the important Northern European market for PPAs Wpd has recently concluded an agreement with the trading sector company K Group, which operates retail chains in Finland and Northern Europe, covering an extensive range of products. For a period of 15 years, K Group will purchase well over 40 million kWh of electricity annually from the Finnish Wpd farm. In Finland, the electricity consumption of K stores and other properties owned by the company has already been fed 100 percent from renewable energy sources since 2017. As Wpd points out, the PPA is expected to increase the share of electricity from renewable energy sources in the company’s total consumption six-fold by the end of 2022.

Wpd has established itself on the Northern European market for renewable energies as a partner for projects that are characterized by a sustainable commitment to the energy turnaround and continuity of cooperation. To date, the company has secured and marketed the installation of 200 MW of green production capacity in Northern Europe. In addition, a further 71 MW are already under construction and corporate PPAs for a volume of around 260 MW have been concluded.

Wpd concludes PPA for ‘Corralnuevo’ wind farm

In Spain, Wpd has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) through its project company for the onshore wind farm project Corralnuevo with Ball Corporation, based in Broomfield, Colorado, USA. The Corralnuevo project consists of 12 Siemens Gamesa G132-3,465 MW turbines and is designed for a total capacity of 41.58 MW. The expected energy yield is about 120 million kWh per year. The contract concluded with Ball is a virtual PPA, starting in 2021, and will cover approximately 100 million kWh of the project's electricity generation per year, equating to more than 1 TWh over the entire term of the PPA. The Corralnuevo project is located on the Torozos plateau in the Spanish region of Valladolid, Castilla y León, and is part of Wpd's Torozos project cluster which includes the other wind farms Las Panaderas, El Poleo and Navillas. Wpd has already signed long-term PPAs for these three projects which have already been completed with a total capacity of 135 MW.

Wpd announces the conclusion of a further PPA in Poland

For the first time, Wpd moreover was able to conclude an offsite corporate PPA with physical delivery in Poland. Orange Polska S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary of France's largest telecommunications group Orange S.A., has been secured to take delivery of the green electricity generated in the two polish wind farm projects Jarocin Wschod and Krotoszyn. The Jarocin Wschod wind farm will consist of two GE 2.5-120 turbines with an installed capacity of five MW. In the Krotoszyn project four GE 2.5-120 turbines with an installed capacity of 10 MW will be installed. As Wpd points out, the energy supply contract is the first cooperation between Orange and Wpd. Starting in 2021, the two Wpd projects will - according to Wpd - supply Orange Polska with a total of approximately 500 million kWh of green electricity over a period of ten years.

Wpd concludes supply contract for wind turbines in the French project Auzay

In addition to recent successes with PPA projects in Europe, the Bremen-based company is also making progress with the French wind tender project Auzay. Via the French Wpd project company Energie Vendée SAS the contract for the delivery of the turbines was concluded with the wind turbine manufacturer Enercon. The Auzay project is located in the municipality of Auchay sur Vendée, Département Vendée, in the Pays de la Loire region of north-west France. Here nine wind turbines (WTG) of the Enercon E-138 EP3 type with a total capacity of almost 36 MW are to be erected. Wpd was awarded the contract for the project at the end of 2017 in the first French round of tenders. With the signing of the contract for the supply of the turbines, the next step in the realization process for the wind farm has been taken. According to the schedule, the first turbines will already be installed in October with the result that the first WTGs can be expected to be commissioned as early as December of this year.
