Lighthouse Project: Euromovement and Enertrag Cooperate on Sustainable Industrial Area

Cottbus, Peitz, Dauerthal / Germany - The Euromovement Group is planning an industrial park with a CO2-neutral energy concept in Jänschwalde near Cottbus. With Enertrag, a strong and experienced partner from the renewable energy industry is now on board.

Euromovement and Enertrag are cooperating in the realization of a sustainable industrial and commercial area, which is being built on the former Drewitz airfield north of the Jänschwalde open-cast lignite mine in the Spree-Neiße district of Brandenburg. Enertrag is contributing its many years of experience in the fields of renewable energy generation and the development of renewable, hydrogen-based energy systems to the project, which hold promise for the further development of the industrial site.

Project demonstrates green energy concept for industrial and commercial areas

The Euromovement company has won Enertrag AG as a partner for the planned Green Areal Lausitz (GRAL) commercial and industrial park on the former Drewitz airfield. With the signing of the cooperation agreement between the two companies, an important cornerstone has been laid to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the GRAL industrial site and to launch a lighthouse project for forward-looking entrepreneurial initiatives in Lusatia.

Euromovement and Enertrag intend to implement the renewable energy concept for the industrial and commercial site together. This includes joint planning up to approval, construction and operation of the renewable energy plants (RE plants), energy supply for industry and commerce, and the creation of additional energy system options.

In order to ensure the greatest possible local energy supply for the Green Areal Lausitz with renewable energy, the concept should thereby meet the following requirements. The electricity demand for the Green Areal Lausitz is to be covered exclusively by electricity from RE plants. The RE electricity on the site is also to be used in other sectors, such as heat supply, in the course of sector coupling. Electricity not used on site is to be fed into the public grid.

"The sustainable concept geared to regional energy generation and supply that we are developing together with Enertrag for the Green Areal Lausitz will make a significant contribution to the energy turnaround, benefiting both the companies that settle here on the site, and the neighboring communities and their residents," says Jochem Schöppler, Managing Partner Euromovement GmbH. As a Brandenburg company, Enertrag is pleased to implement a pioneering concept for a renewable energy supply for the people and for the region on the Green Areal Lausitz together with Euromovement, said Enertrag board member Dr. Gunar Hering. "This is an opportunity to show very concretely what a green energy concept can look like on an industrial and commercial area, and what benefits it can bring for the site, tradespeople, employees and the climate", Hering continued.

Concept includes renewable energy concept and CO2-neutral logistics concept

35 percent of the total area of approximately 209 hectares of the former Drewitz airfield north of the Jänschwalde open-cast lignite mine is earmarked for renewable energy production (wind energy, photovoltaics, infrastructure and heating systems based on renewable energies). As a result, the industrial park is to be operated in a CO2-neutral manner. Green roofs and facades are mandatory for companies wishing to locate at the site. In order to consistently live up to the ecological concept, Euromovement is also planning CO2-neutral logistics for goods and production equipment to complete the conceptual production chain. In addition, freight transport is to be implemented primarily on a renewable basis, i.e. electrically. For this reason, Euromovement is planning a transhipment station (railport) 800 m long for freight traffic, but also for rail logistics companies settling in the area.
