Juwi Builds Largest Solar Park in Company History for Duke Energy in the USA

Woerrstadt, Germany - The Juwi Group has been one of the leading renewable energy specialists for more than 25 years. Now Juwi has reached another milestone in the company's history in the USA.

So far, Juwi has built the company's largest solar park in Greece with a capacity of 204 MW. But with the construction of the "Pike Solar" project, that will change.

The "Pike Solar" solar project with a capacity of 223.6 MW (175 megawatts DC) is being built just outside Colorado Springs on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains. The megaproject, located about 150 kilometers south of Juwi's U.S. branch in Boulder, Colorado, was developed by Juwi and sold to Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions. Its parent company, Duke Energy, is one of the country's leading renewable energy operators with more than 10,500 megawatts of wind and solar capacity.

Once operational, the solar power will be used to supply customers of local utility Colorado Springs Utilities. A 17-year power supply agreement has been signed for this purpose. "We are pleased to continue to expand our solar portfolio in Colorado," said Chris Fallon, president of Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions. "This project will help Colorado Springs Utilities meet its renewable energy goals, reduce its generation costs, and provide more diversified and cleaner energy solutions to its customers."

Juwi as EPC service provider

After the project development, Juwi as EPC service provider (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) will now also take over the realization of the solar park. Only module purchasing will be handled directly by the future operator.

Over the next few months, 414,000 solar modules will be installed on an area of around 530 hectares. During the construction phase, up to 350 employees are expected to be working on the solar park construction site, Juwi announced. Commissioning is planned by the end of 2023. Subsequently, both Juwi and Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions will take over operational management tasks.
