Energy Transition in Poland: RWE Secures Contract For 31 Solar Projects in Polish Auction

Essen, Germany - In addition to the wind market in Poland, RWE is also focusing on the Polish solar market. The Essen-based energy supplier is currently building solar parks throughout Poland with a total capacity of more than 100 MW alternating current (MWac).

Following its successful participation in the latest auction for renewable energies in Poland, RWE is now further expanding its solar pipeline. The Polish regulatory authority Urz?d Regulacji Energetyki (URE) has awarded RWE the contract for 31 additional solar projects with a total capacity of 84 MWac, which corresponds to 102 MW direct current (MWdc). According to RWE, most of the projects have already received all permits and are scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of 2025.

“31 solar projects awarded. This is a great success and underlines our intention to further expand the use of solar energy in Poland, where we already have 91 MWac of solar capacity in operation and more than 100 MWac under construction today. We are looking forward to delivering the next projects to further support the Polish energy transition,” said Katja Wünschel, Managing Director RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, welcoming the award.

RWE is an important player in the Polish renewable energy market. RWE Renewables Poland operates wind farms with a total installed capacity of 541 MW and solar farms with a total capacity of 91 MWac. In addition to the solar projects now commissioned, RWE is currently developing its first Polish offshore project, the F.E.W. Baltic II offshore wind farm.
