For The First Time With a Hub Height Of 179 Metres: Nordex Reaches Milestone With Hybrid Tower Developed In-House

Hamburg, Germany - The Nordex Group has installed its highest turbine to date in Santow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The N175/6.X pilot turbine was installed on a hybrid tower with a hub height of 179 metres.

The hybrid tower, an in-house development of the Nordex Group, combines a 119 metre high concrete section with a steel segment. This innovation is based on Nordex's concrete tower technology, which has been tried and tested for over 15 years, and has been further developed so that greater hub heights can now also be realised.

Following the first installation of an N175/6.X in the summer of 2024 in Schleswig-Holstein on a tubular steel tower with a hub height of 112 metres, the turbine in Santow is now the second wind turbine of this latest and most powerful turbine model. With a rated output of up to 6.8 MW and a rotor diameter of 175 metres, the N175/6.X is particularly suitable for medium and low-wind locations. Thanks to the large hub height and optimised design, the turbine achieves high yields even at low wind speeds, according to Nordex.

„Our hybrid tower technology is the answer to our customers' requirements to further increase the energy yield of wind turbines at light-wind locations. And we can see from the strong customer interest that we are on the right track with our answer and the N175/6.X“, comments Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco on the milestone that has now been reached.

Like the pilot turbine in Schleswig-Holstein, the N175/6.X will undergo extensive testing at the Santow site over the coming months. The agenda includes electrical measurements, sound measurements and further component validations. In addition to testing the design, the pilot turbine in Santow has already served to validate all processes: from production, transport and pre-assembly through to final installation on site.

Nordex offers the N175/6.X turbine on tubular steel towers with hub heights of 112 and 142 metres as well as on hybrid towers with a hub height of 179 metres and in future also up to 200 metres.

The Nordex share has not yet been able to profit in today's trading. In a weak stock market environment, the share price fell by 2.7 per cent to EUR 11.41 by late afternoon (4:02 p.m., 27 January 2025, Stuttgart Stock Exchange).
