Danbury, USA - Fuelcell Energy, Inc., manufacturer of fuel cell power plants, announced a broadening and deepening of the existing relationship with NRG Energy including a $35.0 million investment in Fuelcell Energy common stock by NRG Energy and the establishment of a new $40.0 million revolving construction and term loan facility by NRG Energy for Fuelcell Energy to use for project development.

Designed to generate 144 megawatts (MW) of wind power, the Westermeerwind project with 48 direct drive wind turbines is also the first wind power plant Siemens Wind Power’s Offshore unit will erect for handover to the customer on a turnkey basis.

Gamesa doubles net profit

Madrid - Gamesa ended the first half of 2014 with €42 million in net profit, almost twice the 1H13 figure (€22 million). This increase strengthens the growing trend in profitability, with an EBIT margin of 7.7% at constant exchange rates, and in revenues, which increased by 21% at constant exchange rates.

Siemens: DNV GL certificates new offshore wind turbine

Hamburg - Siemens Energy has obtained type certification by certifying body DNV GL for the company’s innovative D6 offshore wind turbine. The model Siemens SWT-6.0-154 is equipped with a modern direct drive generator, rated at 6 megawatts (MW) and equipped with a 154 meter rotor.

Freiberg Solarworld subsidiaries merge

Bonn, Germany- Three become one: From July 22, 2014 onward, Solarworld’s three manufacturing subsidiaries in Freiberg will perform as one. Deutsche Solar GmbH (wafer manufacturing), Deutsche Cell GmbH (solar cell manufacturing) and Solar Factory GmbH (solar module manufacturing) will merge to become Solarworld Industries Sachsen GmbH.

Ballard to supply New Flyer Industries with power module for U.S. fuel cell bus

Vancouver, Canada – Ballard Power Systems has received a purchase order from New Flyer Industries for the delivery of Ballard’s first next-generation FCvelocity®-HD7 fuel cell power module to a North American bus manufacturer. Delivery of the power module to New Flyer Industries is planned for later this year.

Wind power in Brazil: KfW and BNDES sign an agreement worth EUR 250 million

Frankfurt - Dr Norbert Kloppenburg, Member of the Executive Board of KfW Group and Dr Luciano Couthino, President of the Brazilian development bank Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), have signed a loan agreement in Berlin worth EUR 250 million to finance wind farms in Brazil.

Danish pension funds invest in German offshore wind farm

Fredericia, Denmark - Dong Energy signed an agreement to sell 50 per cent of the 252 MW German offshore wind farm project Gode Wind 2 to a consortium of Danish pension funds. That will make 840,000 pension savers co-owners of the wind farm.
