Growth Market Argentina: Scatec and Equinor Commission 117 MW Solar Power Plant

Oslo, Norway - The two Norwegian energy companies Scatec and Equinor have commissioned the 117 MW Guanizuil IIA solar power plant in the province of San Juan in northwestern Argentina.

The solar power plant is 50 percent owned and operated by the green power producer Scatec and 50 percent by the energy company Equinor. It is expected to produce about 305 GWh (305 million kWh) of green electricity annually.

“We are a frontrunner in developing renewable energy in high-growth markets, and our success in Argentina yet again confirm our strong track record of effective project development, expanding our footprint in the region. It is also our second successful partnership project with Equinor, which we are very pleased with”, says Raymond Carlsen, CEO of Scatec. Pål Eitrheim, Executive Vice President Renewables at Equinor adds: "Solar will be among the fastest growing global energy sources the next decades, and an important element in the global energy transition."

The Guanizuil IIA project is part of the Argentine government's renewable energy tendering programme (RenovAR), which has resulted in more than 2.4 GW (2,400 MW) of new renewable energy capacity. Listed in the global renewable stock index Renixx, Scatec is working on the development of projects of more than 1.4 GW in Latin America and intends and aims to be a long-term partner in the region for the next decades.
