Nel ASA Receives Order For Largest Water Electrolyser in Australia

Oslo, Norway - Nel Hydrogen US, subsidiary of Norway's Nel ASA, has received an order from Australia's Viva Energy Australia Pty. Ltd (Viva Energy) for a PEM electrolyzer.

Once installed, the electrolyzer will be the biggest in Australia and will supply green hydrogen for a fleet of heavy-duty fuel cell vehicles, Nel ASA said.

Viva Energy is an ASX (Australian Securities Exchange) listed company that owns the Geelong refinery and supplies a service station network of approximately 1,350 Shell and Liberty stations across Australia.

As part of the Geelong Energy Hub, Viva Energy is building a new energy refueling station near its Geelong refinery that will enable battery charging and hydrogen refueling. The system, supplied by Nel, is a containerized solution with a production capacity of up to 1,063 kg/day and will supply fuel cfuel cell grade hydrogen directly on site to the dedicated fueling station.

The project received a grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) as part of ARENA's Advancing Renewables Program and the Victorian Government also contributed to the project via the Renewable Hydrogen Commercialization Pathways Fund.

The contract is worth approximately €4 million and the hydrogen plant system is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2022.
