Scatec Starts Construction of 120 MW Solar Power Plant in Tunisia

Tunis, Tunisia – Norwegian energy company Scatec has reached financial close for the Sidi Bouzid II solar power plant in Tunisia and has started construction of the project. The facility, with a capacity of 120 MW, is scheduled to enter operation in the second half of 2027.

The project was awarded at the end of 2024 as part of a government tender and is being developed together with Japanese partner Aeolus SAS, a subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corporation. Scatec and Aeolus each hold a 50 percent stake in the project. Total investment costs amount to approximately EUR 96 million. Financing is provided, among others, by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The solar power plant is expected to generate around 276 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by nearly 107,000 tonnes per year. Tunisia currently covers around 95 percent of its electricity generation with natural gas, more than 60 percent of which is imported. By 2030, the share of renewable energies in electricity generation is targeted to increase to 35 percent.

The Scatec share, listed in the global renewable energy stock index RENIXX World (Renewable Energy Industrial Index), was trading at EUR 8.34 in early trading.
