New Offshore Giant: Mingyang Smart Energy Announces Development of 22 MW Wind Turbine

Beijing, China - In the race for the most powerful offshore wind turbine, the major wind turbine manufacturers Vestas, GE Renewable Energy, Siemens Gamesa and Goldwind from China have been going head-to-head for some time.

With Mingyang Smart Energy from China, a new player could now take the lead. As the manufacturer has announced, two new turbine models, the MySE 22 MW and the MySE 11-233, have now been presented at China Wind Power 2023.

The MySE 22 MW turbine is, according to the company, the most powerful offshore wind turbine to date with a rotor diameter of more than 310 m and a capacity of 22 MW. As Mingyang points out, the turbine, which is designed for use in high-wind areas typhoon-resistant, is suitable for offshore wind farms with conventional foundation structures as well as for floating offshore wind farms. The new turbine is to be developed between 2024 and 2025.

The MySE 11-233 turbine, which was also presented, is an onshore wind turbine with a capacity of 11 MW that will now be manufactured at the Mingyang production facility in Inner Mongolia. According to the company, this turbine, with rotor diameters of 233 to 243 metres and tower heights of 130 to 200 metres, is also suitable for demanding conditions in desert regions such as the Gobi Desert.
