Commercial Operation Launched: Arevon Commissions First Phase Of Giant 4-Hour Battery Storage Project In California

Mojave, Scottsdale / USA - US renewable project developer Arevon Energy has commissioned the first phase of a massive solar storage hybrid project in Kern County, California.

The Eland 1 Solar-plus-Storage project in the City of Mojave is a 384 MW solar project combined with a 4-hour, 150 MW, 600,000 kWh (600 MWh) large-scale battery storage system.

A second phase of the Eland solar-plus-storage project is currently under construction and is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2025. Together, the two project phases Eland 1 and 2 will represent one of the largest solar storage hybrid projects in the country with a total capital cost of more than USD 2 billion. When both phases are completed, the combined capacity of the projects will be 758 MW of solar capacity and 300 MW of storage with a capacity of 1.2 million kWh (1,200 MWh).

Eland 1 is subject to a long-term power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority, which will administer the agreement for two of its members: Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Glendale Water and Power.

Arevon is one of the leading developers of renewable energy projects in California, with more than 3,000 MW of capacity in operation and more than 700 MW under construction in the state.
