Green Plains Launches First CCS System in Nebraska: CO2 Capture Becomes Core Element of Biofuel Strategy - Stock Surges

Omaha (USA) - U.S.-based biofuel producer Green Plains has commissioned its first fully operational carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at its York site in the state of Nebraska.

With this, the company reaches a key milestone in expanding its CO2 strategy, which aims to reduce emissions and support long-term growth.

The facility feeds biogenic carbon dioxide into permanent storage via the Tallgrass Trailblazer Pipeline. Green Plains plans to commission additional CCS systems at its Central City and Wood River sites in Nebraska during the fourth quarter of 2025 and states that the project remains on schedule.

“Bringing carbon capture online at York reflects the continued progress we’re making in executing our carbon strategy,” said CEO Chris Osowski. Green Plains combines the production of low-carbon-intensity biofuels with the generation of CO2 credits designed to support the company’s long-term growth.

Green Plains is a U.S.-based company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, specializing in the production of biofuels and agri-industrial products. Its core business focuses on producing ethanol from corn, supplemented by the extraction of animal proteins, corn oil, and corn fermentation products.

The company’s stock has surged by 30.4 percent over the first three trading days, reaching €10.04 (closing price on October 15, 2025, Stuttgart Stock Exchange), making it one of the top performers in the RENIXX index. Compared to the beginning of the year, the stock is currently up 16 percent.
