Solar Power for Google: Total Energies to Supply Renewable Energy to Google’s Data Centers in Ohio for 15 Years
Paris (France) – Total Energies and Google have signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a total of 1.5 TWh of certified renewable energy.
"Strengthening the grid by deploying more reliable and clean energy is crucial for supporting the digital infrastructure that businesses and individuals depend on", said Will Conkling, Director of Clean Energy and Power, Google. "Our collaboration with TotalEnergies will help power our data centers and the broader economic growth of Ohio."
Stéphane Michel, President Gas, Renewables & Power at Total Energies, emphasized: "This agreement illustrates TotalEnergies’s ability to meet the growing energy demands of major tech companies by leveraging its integrated portfolio of renewable and flexible assets. It also contributes to achieving our target of 12 percent profitability in the power sector."
Total Energies is currently building a 10 GW portfolio in the U.S., including onshore solar and wind projects as well as storage solutions. Of this, 1 GW is in the PJM market in the northeast of the country and 4 GW in the ERCOT market in Texas. The contract with Google follows previous agreements with companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, STMicroelectronics, and Saint-Gobain.
Through this PPA, Google continues its strategy of feeding new CO2-free energy into the grids where it operates. At the same time, Total Energies strengthens its position as a provider of tailored energy solutions for energy-intensive digital infrastructure. By the end of 2025, Total Energies aims to reach 35?GW of installed gross renewable electricity capacity, and by 2030, a net electricity production of more than 100?TWh.
