Indian Solar Market Growing Rapidly: Gujarat Reports Solar Boom In Large-Scale Projects – Q3 Additions Up 88 Percent According To Times Of India

New Delhi (India) - The Indian state of Gujarat recorded a strong increase in large-scale solar installations in the third quarter. According to the Times of India, additions of utility-scale solar projects rose by around 88 percent compared with the same period last year. In total, approximately 1.2 GW of new solar capacity was installed during the three-month reporting period.

The newspaper cites Mercom India Research, noting that although growth was slightly slower than in the previous quarter, cumulative solar capacity in Gujarat exceeded around 25 GW (25,000 MW) by the end of September 2025. This means that nearly 18 percent of India’s total solar capacity is located in the western Indian state.

Industry representatives quoted by the Times of India emphasize that Gujarat remains one of India’s most dynamic solar markets. Drivers include new power purchase agreements and high project activity, particularly in regions such as Kutch. At the same time, the newspaper points to challenges, including approval delays and compliance with local requirements for module manufacturing, which could affect the pace of individual projects.
