Record Fast Charging Now Ready for Mass Production: BYD Charges EVs in Just Nine Minutes - Stock Rises

Shenzhen (China) - BYD is setting new standards in electric mobility: with its second-generation Blade battery and fast-charging technology, charging electric vehicles, according to BYD, will be as quick as refueling. The company is also launching the nationwide “Flash Charge China” strategy with 20,000 fast-charging stations. The stock is slightly up.

The new Blade battery from the Chinese automaker BYD can charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in just five minutes, largely overcoming the limitations of low-temperature charging, according to BYD. The company claims to combine maximum range, high energy density, and safety. In parallel, BYD is building a comprehensive fast-charging network that is expected to get millions of EV users across China to their destinations faster by the end of 2026.

Revolution in Fast Charging: Second-Generation Blade Battery

Listed in the regenerative stock index RENIXX World, Chinese company BYD unveiled its second-generation Blade battery and the associated fast-charging technology on March 5, 2026, in Shenzhen. According to the company, it set a new world record for production vehicles: the battery charges from 10 percent to 70 percent in just five minutes, and from 10 percent to 97 percent in nine minutes. Even at -30°C, charging takes only three minutes longer than at room temperature.

BYD offers a solution that addresses persistent EV challenges such as relatively slow charging, long waits at busy charging stations, and reduced charging performance in low temperatures. BYD President and Chairman Wang Chuanfu emphasized: “To solve these ongoing problems, we must address the root cause. The root of all these problems is slow charging and difficulty charging at low temperatures.”

BYD highlights that the second-generation Blade battery combines fast charging with high energy density and increases storage capacity by over 5 percent compared to the first generation. In BYD’s luxury vehicle Denza Z9GT, the battery enables a range of 1,036 kilometers. Intelligent thermal management ensures that fast charging practically does not affect battery lifespan. BYD safeguards the battery cells against failures throughout the vehicle’s lifetime, improves capacity retention by 2.5 percent, and internal safety tests exceed new national standards. BYD considers the second-generation Blade battery one of the most advanced battery solutions worldwide.

Flash Charge China: Extensive Fast-Charging Network for Daily Use and Long-Distance Travel

To make the advantages of the new Blade battery widely available, BYD has launched the “Flash Charge China” strategy. By the end of 2026, 20,000 fast-charging stations are planned across China. The stations feature a T-shaped, floating design with sliding rails that make the cable and charging gun almost weightless. Users can “plug in and charge, pay seamlessly” via the BYD Flash Charging App – charging is designed to be as convenient as possible.

The fast-charging stations will be available in large and medium-sized cities at intervals of three to six kilometers, so 90 percent of urban users can reach a station within five kilometers. Additionally, BYD plans to install 2,000 “Flash Charge Express Stations” at highway rest stops to facilitate long-distance travel.

Wang Chuanfu also announced that owners of second-generation Blade battery vehicles will receive one year of free fast charging. After that, standard industry fees will apply. With international expansion under the “Flash Charging Planet” initiative, the technology is expected to roll out worldwide to accelerate global electrification, according to BYD.

BYD Stock Slightly Up

Shareholders are reacting cautiously to the milestones communicated by BYD. So far, the stock shows only minor gains in today’s trading and is currently up 0.98 percent at €10.285 (10:16 AM, March 6, 2026, Stuttgart Stock Exchange).
