US Wind Market Grows Despite Headwinds from Washington: Nordex Secures New Major Orders

Hamburg/Münster – The expansion of wind energy in the United States continues despite political uncertainty under the Trump administration. At the federal level, construction halts and delayed permitting are slowing individual projects, while the market continues to grow across the country. Wind turbine manufacturers such as Nordex are benefiting from this trend with new major orders.

According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the United States installed around 6,900 MW of new wind power capacity in 2025, the second-highest volume worldwide after China. Wind turbines generated around 464,000 GWh of electricity in the same year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Combined with solar power, wind generation reached a record 17 percent share of total U.S. electricity generation.

Nordex Secures Three New Orders for 81 Turbines

According to the Nordex Group, the wind turbine manufacturer has secured three new orders in the United States with a combined capacity of more than 480 MW. The contracts cover the supply of 81 N163/5.X turbines. The company did not disclose the customers or project locations. The turbines will be manufactured at Nordex's plant in the U.S. state of Iowa.

"These new orders reflect once again the trust our customers place in Nordex and in our ability to deliver and service projects reliably and efficiently," said Manav Sharma, CEO of Nordex North America. He added that strong customer partnerships and robust manufacturing capabilities continued to drive positive momentum in the region.

Federal Permitting Halts, Growth at State Level

The Trump administration has issued executive orders halting construction at several offshore wind farms and, through the Pentagon, has also delayed permitting for around 165 onshore projects on private land. At the state level, however, expansion continues in states such as Texas, Oklahoma and Iowa: Wood Mackenzie and the American Clean Power Association (ACP) expect around 46,000 MW of new capacity to be added between 2025 and 2029, driven in part by rising electricity demand from data centers. Growth is being constrained by tariffs on turbine components and continued uncertainty around permitting procedures and federal energy policy.

With local manufacturing in Iowa, Nordex is positioning itself in a market environment in which states and utilities are driving wind energy expansion independently of federal policy. For turbine manufacturers, the U.S. onshore market therefore remains a key growth area despite political uncertainty at the federal level.

Nordex Share Price Rises

Nordex shares, listed on the RENIXX World, rose 1.96 percent to EUR 40.54 in trading on the Stuttgart Stock Exchange on August 4, 2026 (as of 2:16 p.m.). Compared with the closing price at year-end (EUR 29.18 on December 30, 2025), the share is up 38.9 percent.
