Weltec Biopower Enters Battery Storage Market: Biogas Plant Builder Weltec Expands Business Areas

Vechta (Germany) – Lower Saxony-based biogas plant builder Weltec Biopower is adding battery storage solutions to its portfolio. Under the name Weltec Battery Hub, the company will offer storage technology going forward, as well as services for the planning and implementation of storage projects.

With the expansion, Weltec is responding to the growing importance of battery storage for integrating renewable energy and for flexible power supply. Alongside combinations with wind and solar plants, the company sees applications in industry, power trading, peak shaving and the stabilisation of microgrids.

The Weltec Battery Hub offering includes the supply of battery storage systems and, on request, project development and permit planning. Weltec also offers engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.

The company has so far not named any specific reference projects, storage capacities or investment amounts for the new business line. Weltec will present the offering at EnergyDecentral, which takes place in Hanover from November 10 to 13, 2026.

Weltec Biopower was founded in 2001 and, according to the company, has built more than 450 bioenergy plants in 27 countries. Its existing portfolio includes biogas and biomethane plants as well as technologies for manure and digestate treatment.

Current international projects include a biomethane plant north of Madrid with planned annual energy production of up to 60 GWh, for which Weltec is supplying plant technology. In Queensland, Australia, the company has also been contracted to plan and build the first of three expansion phases of a bioenergy plant for vegetable producer Kalfresh.
