Guelph, Canada - Solar company Canadian Solar, through its subsidiary CSI Solar Co, Ltd, has signed a solar module contract with Sola Group, an independent power producer based in Cape Town. The solar power will be sold under private power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The two solar power plants have a capacity of 126 and 130 MW and are located in South Africa's North West Province. Sola Group and its partners are developing and operating the project. Construction has already started in October 2022 and commercial operation is planned for the first quarter of 2024.

Canadian Solar will supply over 390,000 BiHiKu7 bifacial solar modules based on 210 mm wafers with an output power of up to 670 W.

Once operational, the solar farms will generate an estimated 580 GWh (580 million kWh) of clean, renewable electricity per year.
