Offshore Wind Market Poland: Semco Maritime And PTSC M&C to Build Substations For Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm
Esbjerg, Denmark - Energy companies PGE Group and Ørsted have awarded an EPC contract for four 375 MW offshore substations for the new Baltica 2 offshore wind project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.
The contract covers the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the four substations, which will be manufactured at PTSC M&C's shipyard in Vungtau, a port city in southern Vietnam. Semco Maritime, with support from ISC Consulting Engineers and Hyundai Electric, will design, procure and install high and medium voltage, SCADA and auxiliary systems. The contract is scheduled to be executed between 2023-2026.
The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm is located in the southern part of the Baltic Sea, about 40 kilometers off the Polish coast. Consisting of 107 wind turbines with a total capacity of approximately 1,500 MW (1.5 GW), the offshore wind farm is expected to produce enough electricity to cover the calculated electricity consumption of approximately 2.4 million Polish households.
The PGE Group is currently working on the implementation of three Baltica offshore wind projects (Baltica 1 to Baltica 3) in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. Together with Ørsted, the world leader in offshore wind energy, PGE is thereby developing the two projects Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 as a 50/50 joint venture with a total capacity of up to 2,500 MW (2.5 GW).
As the first of the three offshore wind farm sub-projects, the Baltica 2 project, with a capacity of around 1,500 MW, will already go into operation by the end of 2027. This will be followed by the Baltica 3 offshore wind farm (1,000 MW) by 2030. In addition, PGE has already started environmental impact assessments for the Baltica 1 offshore wind farm, which is scheduled to be commissioned after 2030 with a planned capacity of around 900 MW. In total, PGE's new Baltica offshore wind farm complex thus has a total capacity of around 3,400 MW (3.4 GW).
