RE Expansion in Africa: ABO Wind Sells 100 MW PV Project in South Africa

Wiesbaden, Germany / Cape Town, South Africa - ABO Wind has sold the project rights for a large solar project in South Africa. This is the third photovoltaic project in a cluster totaling 300 MW. The now sold project in the North West Province of South Africa has a nominal capacity of 100 MW.

The Wiesbaden-based project developer had already sold the remaining 200 MW of the cluster in 2022.

ABO Wind's South African team has developed the project to construction readiness and obtained all necessary permits. The buyer has already concluded a private-law electricity supply contract with a buyer for the electricity produced.

"We started working on this project when we first entered the South African market in 2018. Our development team has done an excellent job in fully developing the project, and the finance & sales team has set a sound financial basis and ensured a smooth sale", said Rob Invernizzi, General Manager of the South African subsidiary of ABO Wind.

In South Africa, ABO Wind's business model is to develop large-scale wind, solar, battery and hybrid projects, as well as potential sites for green hydrogen production. Currently, 19 employees in the Cape Town office are working on a full pipeline of more than 4,600 MW of renewable energy capacity.

According to ABO Wind, a large part of the project portfolio is located in areas with excellent resources and good grid capacity and is far enough advanced in terms of planning to participate in tenders.
