Agreement Signed: DEME And FARIA Cooperate on Offshore Wind Farms in Greece

Zwijndrecht, Belgium - Belgian marine engineering specialist DEME and Greek renewable energy developer and independent power producer FARIA Renewables have signed a cooperation agreement to explore the possibilities and joint development of offshore wind farms in Greece.

Both companies aim to play an important role in the developing offshore market in the region.

In support of climate targets, the Greek government recently announced the draft "National Development Program for Offshore Wind Farms". The program defines development areas for offshore wind farms. According to DEME and FARIA, it is estimated that offshore wind projects with a capacity of around 4,900 MW (4.9 GW) can be developed there in the medium term (2030-2032), not including the sea area between Evros and Samothrace, which is earmarked for pilot projects for offshore wind farms. Furthermore, according to the program, it is expected that a capacity of around 12,400 MW (12.4 GW) could be developed in the longer term (after 2030-2032).

DEME and FARIA Renewables want to join forces and, based on their many years of experience and expertise, carry out a comprehensive assessment of the Greek maritime area in order to identify the optimal locations for the development of offshore wind farms.

They intend to conduct in-depth research and exploration, working with stakeholders and local communities. At the same time, they aim to support and create synergies with the local supply chain in order to ultimately develop successful and competitive projects.
