RWE Concludes Long-Term PPAs With Meta And Telehouse For Solar And Offshore Wind Power
Münster, Essen / Germany - Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are of great importance for the energy transition. They enable companies to purchase renewable energy at stable prices over the long term, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and achieving climate targets. The energy group RWE has announced the conclusion of two PPAs with two major customers.
This is already the third PPA between RWE and Meta in recent months
RWE and Meta have announced a 15-year power purchase agreement for a 200 megawatt (MWac) solar project in Texas. Meta will purchase all of the power produced by RWE's Waterloo Solar Farm in Bastrop County. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in late 2025.
The PPA with Meta is the third PPA that RWE has concluded with the technology company in recent months. In total, agreements have been concluded for three RWE projects in Texas, Illinois and Louisiana with a total volume of 574 MW. Last year, RWE had already announced two PPAs with Meta - for the County Run solar project in Illinois (274 MWac) and the Lafitte solar project in Louisiana (100 MWac).
“RWE’s partnership with Meta underscores the importance of unleashing American electricity generation from all sources to support load growth in Texas and across the U.S.,” said Christoph Hunfeld, Chief Commercial Officer, RWE Clean Energy:
RWE and Telehouse agree to 10-year power purchase agreement
RWE also announces the signing of a 10-year PPA with Telehouse International Corporation of Europe, a leading global provider of data center services.
Under the agreement, RWE will supply a significant amount of renewable energy to Telehouse's London Docklands campus, one of the most connected data center sites in Europe, until the end of 2035. The electricity will be supplied by the UK's London Array offshore wind farm, which has a total installed capacity of 630 MW.
“This power purchase agreement ensures Telehouse and its customers have reliable access to clean, renewable electricity, providing certainty on the robustness of supply. We are pleased to support Telehouse also in its decarbonisation efforts,” said Olaf Lubenow, Head of Commodity Solutions UK, North & South Europe, RWE Supply & Trading about the deal. “Thanks to this PPA with RWE, the electricity purchased for our London Docklands campus will continue to be derived from renewable energy sources, demonstrating our efforts to drive efficiency at our campus and deliver real benefits for our customers,” adds Mushtaq Choudhary, Head of Procurement at Telehouse Europe.
The London Array offshore wind farm is located in the Thames Estuary off the coast of South East England and is operated by RWE and owned by a consortium of four partners.
