Green Light for Solar Projects: Environmental Permits Secure UKA’s Progress in Agri-Photovoltaics in Southern Italy

Meißen (Germany) - Agri-photovoltaics is increasingly seen as a solution to combine renewable power generation and agricultural use on the same land. In Ramacca, Sicily, UKA Italia has now obtained the necessary environmental and landscape permits from the Italian Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Culture for two large agri-PV projects. The solar parks Pesce (42.73 MWp) and Capezzana (55.71 MWp) have thus reached a crucial milestone in the approval process.

The systems are planned to be installed on elevating systems to a minimum height of 2.1 meters high to enable simultaneous agricultural use. According to UKA, the combination of modern solar technology and the high solar irradiation in Sicily allows an annual electricity generation of more than 2,100 kWh per kilowatt. The grid connection will be made via a newly planned substation operated by the grid company TERNA.

“We are committed to sustainable land use and environmental stewardship. My team is thrilled that our projects will contribute significantly to the clean energy supply,” said Álvaro Sierra Torrón, Managing Director of UKA Italia. Maximilian Neef, Head of the International Division at UKA, added: “With Italy being one of UKA’s focus markets, this success underscores our strong commitment to the country’s renewable energy future – a market in which we intend to further invest and grow.”

The next step is to obtain the “Autorizzazione Unica” permit to make the projects construction-ready. UKA thus continues its strategy of combining agriculture and renewable power generation on one site.
