Taiwan Accelerates Geothermal Expansion: Baseload Power and CPC Launch Pilot Project to Support Market Scale-Up

Taipei – Geothermal developer Baseload Power Taiwan and the state-owned energy company CPC Corporation, Taiwan have entered into a strategic partnership to develop geothermal energy projects. The initial focus is the Tuchang Geothermal Project in Yilan County, which is intended to serve as the starting point for the further development of Taiwan's geothermal potential.

Through the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partners have established a framework for the joint assessment and development of additional geothermal projects. Initial activities will include resource assessment, technical analysis, feasibility studies, and project development. Baseload Power Taiwan and CPC will also explore potential joint investment models to support the further development of Taiwan's geothermal market.

Geothermal Energy as a Key Element of Taiwan's Energy Transition

According to the project partners, Taiwan possesses significant geothermal potential and considers the technology an important component of its future energy mix. By combining CPC's local expertise and resources with Baseload's international geothermal experience, the partnership aims to help establish the conditions for reliable renewable energy projects and broader deployment of geothermal technology.

Baseload Power Taiwan has been active in the Taiwanese market since 2019 and is currently developing several geothermal projects in different regions of the country. The Baseload Group has experience from geothermal developments in Japan, Iceland, and the United States.

Scaling Taiwan's Geothermal Market: Tuchang Project as the Starting Point

The Tuchang Geothermal Project in Yilan County will be the initial focus of the collaboration. The partners plan to assess the project's technical and economic viability and generate insights that can be applied to future geothermal developments across Taiwan.

"Taiwan has some of the strongest geothermal potential in Asia and a clear ambition to expand renewable energy. Through this collaboration with CPC, we are bringing together complementary expertise to help unlock that potential," said Alexander Helling, CEO of Baseload Capital.

The agreement lays the foundation for continued cooperation and the potential development of a scalable geothermal market in Taiwan.
