Renewable stocks: The China trend in RENIXX continues

Muenster - The trend towards the increasing presence of Asian companies in the international stock index for renewable energies, RENIXX World, is continuing. Following the index adjustment of 1 July 2011, 13 of the 30 companies already listed in RENIXX hail from Asia, 11 of these from China and one each from India and Taiwan. Five years before, Suntech Power was the only Asian company represented in RENIXX, states the IWR, a renewable energy institute, in Münster. \"China\'s successful industrial policy in the field of renewable energy technologies is clearly reflected in RENIXX\", said IWR Director Dr. Norbert Allnoch.

A total of five names found their way into the RENIXX World index of 1 July in the course of the regular inspection of its representation. Free Float market capitalisation is the basis on which renewable companies are included. Two Chinese company names are now included in RENIXX: the wind turbine manufacturer Mingyang and the solar company Hanwha SolarOne (previously Solarfun). Also included in the index are the German supplier of manufacturing equipment for the PV industry, Centrotherm Photovoltaics, the US supplier of carbon fibres for the wind energy industry, Zoltek, and the Canadian plant operator Alterra Power. The two renewable energy subsidiaries of the energy corporations EDF and Iberdrola dropped out of the index. The parent companies in both cases decided to buy back their renewable energy divisions EDF Energies Nouvelles (France) and Iberdrola Renewables (Spain). Others who dropped out were the US specialist for solar module encapsulation STR Holdings, the Chinese wafer producer Renesola and the Belgian wind energy gearbox manufacturer Hansen Transmissions.

RENIXX closed the first 6 months of 2011 with a loss of 10.3 percent on 474.85 points (final status: 30.06.2011). The index continued on a downward trend up to the reactor disaster in Japan in March. The interim recovery following the events in Fukushima has, in the meantime, fizzled out completely. With 454.87 points on 27 June 2011, RENIXX recorded a record low since May 2005.
