Cape Town, South Africa (renewablepress) - ENERTRAG, a global leader in renewable energy, collector-grid, battery and green-hydrogen solutions, is pleased to announce the appointment of Enos Banda as the new Chief Executive Officer of ENERTRAG South Africa, its South African operation.

The appointment marks a significant step for ENERTRAG, headquartered in Germany, in moving towards implementation of its substantial renewable-development pipeline in South Africa.

“I am excited to step into the role of CEO at ENERTRAG South Africa during a period of rapid transformation and notable grid challenges in the energy sector,” says Enos Banda. “Our goal is to drive meaningful change by leveraging the ENERTRAG global innovations and pioneering work that I’ve been involved in on the South African grid development and investment. I believe now, more than ever, global innovation, local expertise and collaboration are key to achieving a successful energy transition,” said Enos.

Enos brings decades of experience in the energy sector. He is a former chairman of the energy regulator, has worked as a senior executive in the energy industry, and led both listed and unlisted companies as a senior executive or board member. Recently he founded Green Transmission Company, which has started working on grid infrastructure development in South Africa, and which will explore collaboration with ENERTRAG. He is a thought leader and, in a career spanning over two decades, has expressed his leadership through a balance of entrepreneurship in the private sector, government, academia, and the nonprofit sector.

“Enos’ appointment marks a bold new chapter for our South African operations,” says Dr. Tobias Bischof-Niemz, Member of the Management Board at ENERTRAG SE. “Under Enos’ leadership, we are reinforcing our commitment to driving innovation and delivering sustainable energy solutions to South Africa, especially in the coal region of Mpumalanga. His expertise and leadership will play a critical role in advancing our mission to contribute to South Africa’s sustainable energy future.”

About ENERTRAG

ENERTRAG has been realising the energy transition for over 25 years. More than 1,100 employees plan, build and operate integrated power plants (Verbundkraftwerke): based on wind and solar power plants, our own grid infrastructure, batteries and electrolysers. These provide reliable, on-demand electricity, heat and green hydrogen – replacing any fossil-fuelled power plant.

With our own plants, we generate around 2,000 gigawatt hours of electricity from wind and sun every year and have been producing green hydrogen since 2011. Based on this, we are developing energy projects with a capacity of over 15 gigawatts – in nine countries on four continents.

ENERTRAG represents the global energy supply of the future: sustainable, secure, regionally anchored. To keep our planet a place worth living.

ENERTRAG South Africa was established as a subsidiary of ENERTRAG SE, the German-based renewable energy company, in 2017. The company is a renewable energy development company, inclusive of wind and solar PV, in addition to green hydrogen and other technologies.
